5 tips about moving abroad!

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! Recently I have been asked a lot about moving abroad so I thought I’d give you some tips that I have learnt and that I would certainly recommend!

1. Save Save Save

So whether you have a job lined up or not it’s so important that you save before hand, you’ll need as much money as possible to travel, learn and experience new things. Naturally it’s better to research the cost of living in the place your thinking about going and your usual day to day expenses like groceries, beers and cocktails or whatever is an important factor for you, (mine clearly being the price alcohol).

2. Be organized

Ok so I’m not the most organized person in the world but it’s always really helpful to have as much planned in advance as possible as it completely reduces stress and worry. Ideally have somewhere to stay and if you don’t have a job straight away then have a good few resumes at the ready. Make sure you see your own doctor and dentist before you leave and buy little things like your pill or any important medication before you leave because they’re not always exactly the same abroad.

I’m not saying spontaneity is a bad idea just it’s great to have the annoying things planned, it makes the transition from one country to another easier and you can settle in quicker. ALSO, you never imagine yourself having to go to the doctor or hospital in your new home but I would HIGHLY recommend having some kind of first aid assistance! It’s so helpful and it saves a lot of money and filling out forms (this is totally coming from a personal experience, a car door experience).

3. Research where you’re going

It’s always good to research the area and the culture of your chosen spot as it’s good to know what’s near and what’s not so near and how you can travel around for work and leisure. Find out if a train or bus is available close to you. It’s good to understand if it’s a highly recommended area or not. The last thing you want is to end up in a ‘not so friendly’ area.

Culturally, having information about the culture can save you misreading a lot of things I can tell you! Different countries have different mannerisms and different ways to communicate with one another. It’s always good to be aware and pick up a book or use the internet to find out some info about your chosen country.

4. NEVER be afraid to come home

Whether you are the most successful person in the world living abroad or someone who hasn’t met their goals yet, always make time to come home. You have to remember that you do have a home and a spin home is always worth the travel. Even if you spend 5 months abroad and you really feel you need to come back home and start again, never be ashamed! An experience is always something to look back on and learn from, whether it was what you expected or not. Whatever you decide to do, do it for you! Not for anyone else.

5. Good days Vs Bad days

Ok, so for my final point I would like to voice that moving away is not a walk in the park or in any way easy. At the beginning, not every day is full of roses and daisies it’s so important that you remain positive and work towards your goals. Nothing comes easier living abroad, as long as you work hard, keep your chin up and find positivity on the hard days and you will find such beauty in your journey and you will be set for any obstacles that could come your way. Whatever you do, do it with 100% and never be afraid to tell a friend or family member that you haven’t had a good day, it’s important to talk about it and reflect on it. Always remain true to yourself and take each day as they come.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and I hope you find these tips helpful!! Stay tuned for more of my tips,

Peach and love,

Sincerely RachelEve 💋
